Will winter ever end? The good thing about all this snow is the positive effect it should have on our lake.

Pictured is Ruth Gustafson presenting a check for $325.13 to treasurer Sandi Steckel.

The money is a donation from Chilberg Gas Association, which dissolved years ago, leaving this amount to eventually be turned over to the State. Thanks to the prompting of Myrt Hackert, and the perseverance of Bob Haupt, the money was recovered for donation to HLA.

The fathead minnow program continues to be a big success! In addition to the 20,00 minnows purchased each year in 2002 and 2003, we have harvested and planted from private local ponds a total of 72,000 minnows. This means a grand total of 112,000 fat head minnows have been planted in the lake in the last two years. The goal is to maintain the program for five years and see how it affects the fish.

The Board is pursuing a petition for the establishment of a Lake Board to assess money for the control of eurasian milfoil in our lake. We ask all property owners to support this effort, which was strongly endorsed in the survey conducted in 2003.

You might also be interested to see the Hackert Lake Association website is updated. Minutes of the board and membership meetings will be easier to access with links to them all on one page. I've also begun a section on the history of our association. I am working with minutes of past meetings beginning in 1984. I would be delighted to include any historical documents or stories that you might have available to share.

Thank you John and Linda Ochs for the photograph and for keeping me informed. We are anxiously awaiting word that the snow has receded to a point where we can get through our drive to the lake.
